Type II diabetes is a chronic disease where insulin secretion is lacking therefore causing hyperglycemia (Porter, Kaplan 2011). Although insulin levels are often very high in the early phases of the disease, the peripheral insulin and increase hepatic production of glucose make insulin inadequate to normalize plasma glucose levels (Porter, Kaplan 2011). With that being said the insulin production decreases and further worsening hyperglycemia. There are many cause of this disease that an individual should be aware of. Etiology Type II diabetes is highly influenced by both genetic and environmental factors.
